TREASURE HUNT
Finding Your Treasure
God’s GPS System – Part 6
His Presence
Psalm 16:11 “…In Your presence is fullness of joy.”
Hannah was constantly being teased, ridiculed and taunted by the “other woman”. Everywhere Hannah went the “other woman” was there, bothering her, provoking her, because she had the one thing that Hannah wanted so badly…. Hannah wanted a “baby”, but she was unable to have one, because she was barren. In fact, it says that her womb was closed. Hannah watched as her husband would give gifts to the “other woman” and the children they both shared. Hannah sank deeper and deeper into depression. She couldn’t eat! After a while, jealousy, anger, and bitterness started to well up inside of her. What was Hannah going to do? Where was she going to go? How was she going to get this very thing that she longed for? Sound like a romance novel? Well it is! Read 1 Samuel 1.
What do you long for today? What is that “baby” that you so greatly desire? What is stopping you from having it? Have the pressures of life “closed up your womb”, leaving you barren, and making it difficult for you to give birth to your dream? Do you get depressed, angry and even bitter when you see others enjoying the very thing that you dream of? Genesis 18:14 asks you this question “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” Do you know that you can find everything that you need by getting into the presence of God? Psalm 16:11 says “In Your presence is fullness of joy.” The Hebrew word for fullness is soba (so-bah), which means satisfying, and another word for joy is gem. So, in other words, this scripture is saying that “in God’s presence there is a satisfying gem”. The very treasure that we are diligently and constantly searching for can be found in God’s presence, but we must first stop looking to external sources to fulfill our desires and turn our faces toward God. When Hannah decided to stop focusing on her surroundings and “pour out her soul before the Lord,” (1 Samuel 1:1), It says in I Samuel 1:20 that “… it came to pass in the process of time that Hannah conceived and bore a son, and called his name Samuel saying, because I have asked him from the Lord.”
We must understand that a “baby” is produced and developed from within. Therefore, we must first get into God’s presence on a daily basis and allow Him to impregnate us with his Spirit. “John 15:5 says, “He who abides (lives) in Me and I in him, bears much fruit.” It goes on further to say in John 15:7 “If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire and it shall be done for you.” If we continue to do what it says in Philippians 4:6 of the Message Bible “Don’t fret or worry. Instead, of worrying, pray”, then God will do “superabundantly, far over and above all that we (dare) ask or think (infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes or dreams) (Ephesians 3:20 Amp).
