TREASURE HUNT
Come Forth- Part I
The Excavation

“….He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, Come forth!” (John 11:43)

For the last few months, we have been discussing how to find the treasure that God has placed on the inside of us.  We talked about how God has given us His own Global Positioning System to get us to our destination.  But what happens when you get there?  What happens when you find the treasure?

As many of us know, when a treasure is found, it is not easily accessible. Often times, a treasure is buried under the surface of the earth—covered by mounds, and mounds of dirt, rock and debris.  Many times, it is hidden in the deep, dark, crevices and recesses of a cave.  2 Corinthians 4:7 (Amp.) says that God has hidden his “… precious treasure in (frail, human) vessels of the earth.”  God’s treasures reside on the innermost parts of our hearts and our minds.  So how do we get to these treasures?  You have to excavate.

To excavate means to expose or to uncover by digging.  Excavation is one of the most important and exciting parts of a treasure hunt, because it allows us to unearth a chest of treasures and gifts that goes beyond our imagination. In fact, the Bible says in I Corinthians 2:9 “Eyes has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love him.”  Therefore, God has a wealth of gems and jewels deep down on the inside of us that has yet to be discovered. But, as I just mentioned, there are obstacles that can keep us from our treasure.  Sometimes, the “dirt, rock and debris” of life,  such as financial hardship, divorce, sickness, past failures, and death will come up, overtake us and bury us under mounds and mounds of depression and oppression, thereby, clouding our mind, blinding our “vision” and destroying our passion.  We must understand, though, that, while difficulties will arise in our lives, they should not stop us from moving into the calling that God has for us.
1 Timothy 4:14 says, “Do not neglect the gift that is in you”.  We must also understand that God “gave gifts unto men (and women) (Ephesians 4:8) for the purpose of carrying out His will on the earth.  So what do we need to do?  We need to start digging.

2 Timothy 1:6 says to “stir up the gift of God which is in us”.  The Greek word for stir is qŭwm (koom), which means to raise, or to rise up.  Therefore, this scripture is telling us to raise up the gift that lies dormant and buried on the inside of us. But you may ask “How do I do it?”  “How do I excavate the gifting that is inside of me?”

As with any excavation, there are tools, such as shovels and picks that are used to get you to your treasure. However, when we talk about a spiritual excavation, then there natural, as well as spiritual tools that we are to use to get us to what God has for us.  Next month, we will start to discuss the tools and the rules needed to come forth in your gifting.  See you next month!  Love ya!
